Chi Xiaoyu is a character that appears in Shining Nikki. She is a first-year university student and makes up the Cloud Empire Trio alongside Qing Yumo and Jiang Xitong.

Appearance[]
Chi Xiaoyu wears Cloud clothes styled in a modern way. Her face is framed with long sidebangs and blunt bangs. Her hair is parted in the middle with two braids on each side of her head, which are tied up using two fluffy balls and ribbons in a loop. The color of the ribbons change depending on her outfit.
Personality[]
Chi Xiaoyu has a bubbly personality and is a good friend to Vermillion Snow. She is smart but is known to sleep during class. She enjoys reading romantic webnovels.
In Lotus and Rain's "Into Memory," Xiaoyu's grandmother comments that she is "like a lotus, unaffected by their environment or surroundings, doing their own thing." Ailian, Xiaoyu's mother, thinks of her as rather childish, but admits that she has a knack for fashion design. [2]
Xiaoyu is quite stubborn with her ways of design, usually getting in trouble with her teachers and sometimes getting into debates with other designers, especially her Cloud Empire Trio partners. Her mother once asked Jiang Xitong to tutor her for design, but Xitong promptly gave up, unable to handle Xiaoyu's style of Cloud Empire design. However, Xitong did say that Ailian should not hold Xiaoyu back despite not agreeing with her style.

Chi Xiaoyu is part of the Cloud Empire Trio as the modern Cloud style representative.
Xiaoyu was named by her father, who named her after a poem he found in a poetry book.
"From murky waters of the lake, Arise the buds of beauteous make, Koi fish swim in the lake as if playing with lotus leaves..."
Ailian wanted Xiaoyu to grow up pure and elegant, and hoped that her husband picked a name that inferred lotus or nobility. However, Xiaoyu's father chose the name 'Xiaoyu,' which meant 'little fish,' as to represent koi fish that stick around lotuses. As Ailian was fond of lotuses, she was skeptic of the name choice, unsure of Xiaoyu would be an elegant lotus or a free fish. Due to Xiaoyu 'disrespecting' Cloud tradition by designing more modern designs, Ailian scolded her often.
She also seems to have a strained relationship with her parents, with one of her Awaken quotes being "When mom and dad left me alone for vacation, I kind of doubted that they were my real parents."[3]
