Jiang Xitong is a character featured in Shining Nikki.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Personality[]
As a member of the Thousand Autumns Fashion Society, Jiang Xitong highly values traditional orthodox clothing styles and condemns those that deviate from that style. Xitong works at the Cloudcrest National Museum as an expert in traditional aesthetics, with multiple qualifications related to traditional Cloud culture.[5] She is highly academic and enjoys all the work she does. She’s eager to share what she knows of traditional Cloud culture, though these conversations with her tend to turn into small lectures, even for what she considers informal topics.[6][7]
Jiang Xitong had a strong sense of responsibility since she was little.[8] And Xitong was described as a sensitive, introverted girl during puberty.[9]
History[]
Her mother is a history professor.[10] and her grandmother was a scholar at the museum.[11] Her interest in the ancient Cloud was inspired by her grandmother’s stories and nurtured further by her family’s existing scholarly connections. She read poems and ancient proses extensively as a child, she even replicated a traditional hairstyle using a hosta as a “jade pin”.[12]
She spent 3 years and 2 months of consultation and field investigation which resulted in Xitong finding her place as the 345th successor of the first Wardrobe Advisor. Although hundreds of generations had nothing to do with design, Xitong felt a connection with her ancestor and realized the career she could devote her life to.[13]
Relationships[]
Chi Xiaoyu[]
Jiang Xitong was Chi Xiaoyu’s tutor from when she herself hadn’t graduated college yet and Chi Xiaoyu was in high school. Xitong is often invited as guest judge by the college, and has failed Xiaoyu seven times.[14] Even though they don’t understand each other’s design philosophy, they’re capable of getting along.[15]
Qing Yumo[]
Jiang Xitong holds much disdain for Yumo's clothing designs. “Yumo never considers history when she designs. Her works are gorgeous but empty! It’s an insult to the traditional style! The influence is negative!”[16] They’re familiar with each other’s tea preferences. Jade dew for Yumo and ink-pin for Xitong. They can both agree that each other’s outfit designs aren’t too bad, in comparison to Chi Xiaoyu’s at least.[17]
Jiang Beixi[]
Jiang Beixi and Jiang Xitong are sisters. Their work keeps them distant from each other most of the time, but they keep tabs on one another. Jiang Beixi checks her sister’s Moments[18] and Jiang Xitong watches her sister’s programs.[19] Jiang Xitong really wants her sister to wear traditional Cloud clothing, but the one time she finally convinced her, Beixi wore a piece made by Chi Xiaoyu.[20]
