Appearance

Joy is a pleasant looking yellow-eyed woman with warm light brown hair tied into a braid. She wears a puffy-sleeved dark brown dress with a white apron, both with yellow and pink flowers on them, and a wide-brimmed white-and-brown hat with yellow flowers. She has also a yellow kerchief around her neck.

History

Background

Joy is the daughter of a scientist who devoted himself to the study of Designer's Reflection and was funded by Mercury. Because of her father's mania, Joy also aspired to master the power of the Designer's Reflection and became the subject of her father's experiment herself.

Main Stages

Joy first appeared in Chapter 2 when she helped Nikki and Momo travel across the river from Flowerland to Starheaven. She rowed the boat and told Nikki a little about where they were going, such as the fact that all of the cities in Ninir were based on a fairy tale, including Starheaven Town. When Nikki expressed curiosity, Joy told her that it was based on the tale of the Starheaven Swan, and sang her the story.

Joy met Nikki again while Nikki was searching for a suit. When Nikki showed it to her, Joy told her that she could never forget that suit. She explained that it was from a significant competition in Ninir called the Starheaven Swan Competition, and that even the current queen, Lilith, had been a previous winner of the competition. Joy admitted that she wanted to compete as well, so she battled Nikki.

Joy was impressed with Nikki's performance, and encouraged her to compete as well. She then finished the story about the last competition, explaining that a fire had begun that burned away the winner's good looks. After catching sight of how she looked afterwards, Joy pitied her.

Relationships

Joy's Father

Joy's own father was a great designer, one whom she admired very much. Every time she created a pretty outfit, it would make her father delighted and inspired her to become a great stylist.

Joy's father also used to take her rowing in Lake Silvermoon. He described Lake Silvermoon as the most beautiful place in the kingdom and it inspired him. Joy very much enjoyed their trips to Lake Silvermoon.

However, later chapters revealed that Joy’s father, in his obsession with utilizing the Designer’s Reflection, became heavily abusive towards Joy. He began using her as the subject of his experiments, which severely traumatized her and damaged her psyche to the point that only having her memory of this time erased was enough to heal her from it.
